The Young Adult Volunteer program is a Presbyterian Church (USA) program that serves to help communities in need around the country and world through about 90 volunteers a year, ages 19-30. August 31st I moved to my site in Asheville, NC where I am working with the Asheville Area of Habitat for Humanity as an office intern for volunteer coordination! While there five goals of the YAV experience, the emphasis of this year is to serve in community with your fellow YAVs, developing a sense of self individually as well as in relation to the community you are living in. This year I have the pleasure to live with five other girls in a small but cozy house in Asheville. Throughout the year, we will strive to meet the YAV programs goals, being living in an intentional Christian community, embracing simple living, working cross-cultural mission, leadership development through Faith in Action, and vocational discernment. Keep posted to hear more about my story and how we will be accompanying those in need across Asheville!
